Skywatch Friday: Finally some blue sky again!

For more skies from around the world, visit http://skyley.blogspot.com

Phew! I thought I was going to have to post a picture of grey sky today, but just in the nick of time, at hometime, along came the sun! Hooray! Please stay nice tomorrow weather! Ooh it's James' birthday in half an hour.. nearly time to say Happy Birthday! This is a late post today, shocking! I was distracted by chocolate cake, political debates and our latest lovefilm film, The Boy with the Striped Pyjamas. Now that was cheery - a film about a boy who breaks into a concentration camp is never going to end well really. It was an excellent film though, I think I'd put it in the same category as Blood Diamond, and The Last King of Scotland. Brilliant, but I don't think I'll be wanting to watch it again in a hurry!

Happy Birtday to me!

.. as my card from James wished me! In honour of my cake wrecked card, here's another of my favourites!

and here's a smiley doughnut cushion I got today!! =)

What a nice sunny day to have off work and sit in the garden!

Update: Haha, check out this little fella from Mum and Dad..

I love it!!

And of course, no birthday is complete without a smarties covered deckchair!

Photos of the garden to follow, once i've finished planting up the new veggie patch!

James and I just got back from Jamie's Italian in Guildford, it was as delicious as the last time when we went to the one in Bath! Now it's time to relax in front of the Brighton sunset, now adorning the wall.. Ahh..

Thanks everyone for a lovely birthday! =)

Skywatch Friday: Happy St George's Day!

Dorking

Well, it is another beautiful Friday, the weather has been absolutely amazing! I'm looking forward to 19 degrees tomorrow too! I managed to get out for a walk at lunchtime today, and I wandered over to the Denbies vineyard to see how their vines are getting along. I was quite smug to find that our grape vines at home are doing much better than theirs, our two both have leaves on now, while the ones in Denbies don't even have buds on yet! It seems we have the superior terroir!

By the way, happy St George's Day! We are celebrating our patron saint's day with some lovely Swedish pear cider, and Chinese food! Well, he wasn't English anyway, was he? I found out today on Pause for Thought, that he was actually a Roman soldier and priest, who refused to offer up a sacrifice to Pagan gods, and ended up being put to death by Emperor Diocletian. It turns out he's also the patron saint of 10 different countries! He must be a good one then, even if he didn't actually slay any dragons.

The photo is of a mysterious walled garden in the grounds at work, I'd like to see what's inside..

Volcanic sunset

Volcanic sunset

We were heading back from the New Forest last Thursday, and we noticed a bit of an interesting sunset going on. It turns out it wasn't just any red sky at night, but a special volcanic dust covered sunset! These photos were taken in one of the fields over by Broadbridge Heath, it seems we have discovered the secret hideout of all the Horsham deer. They were all staring at us very suspiciously!

Baby wallabies!! =) How cute is that? We went over to Leonardslee Gardens on Sunday, and look what we found! It's quite lucky lots of the babies are albino, or we might not have spotted their little ears sticking out of the wallaby pouches! This one poked its head right out to have a wash! If you like that sort of thing, there are few more photos over on my flickr account..

The camelias are out in force now too, very pretty! I would definitely recommend a visit. Hopefully we'll be going back there in June to see the azaleas and rhododendrons, they were amazing last year! Might take along a picnic too..

Before I forget, take a look at this interesting use of a windscreen wiper we spotted just outside Horsham the other day.. yeah I think it's got some work to do before it gets any visibility out of that window!

Skywatch Friday: Sunshine!!

A lovely day for a trip down to Brighton to pick up my birthday pressie..

.. but still with a touch of volcanic Icelandic dust in evidence! It was bizarre to drive past Gatwick earlier and see absolutely no planes in the air!

Broadbridge Heath walk

Fields near Horsham
Originally uploaded by kipperfrog
Well today, after realising at the crucial moment, that our new National Trust membership cards haven't shown up through the post yet, we decided not to fork out £11.50 entrance fees (!) for Wakehurst Place, and headed back home for a more local walk.

We drove over towards Rookwood Golf Course and parked up near the entrance to the fields on Robin Hood Lane. There's a really nice field walk across farmland there, and you usually spot a few deer running about the place too!

I always like finding new circular walks, this one is about 2 miles and it's quite relaxing, no hills or anything. It seems to be quite popular with dog walkers. We normally get to the farmer's house and then feel we ought to turn around again, but today we actually followed the proper public footpath signs, and it turns out the paths lead to Broadbridge Heath Lane, just near the village. Just walk along this road for a while, and you see a right turn back on to Robin Hood Lane. Lovely! I like it when a plan comes together.

Happy Easter! =)

Olaf Priol, Flair Spool and Raif Lopol

Well, it's been quite an interesting day in the news:
-A radical new "Dirty Harry" style advertising campaign from Labour

-A James Bond makeover for the AA in Project Apollo: using AA Rocketmen to take on the M25

-The circle line to house Hadron Collider II

-The Queen saves a bit of dosh and flies easyJet:

-Virgin Media reveal their secret use of ferrets to maintain their cable networks, used for their "strong nesting instinct, their long, lean build and inquisitive nature, and for their ability to get down holes":

-and the first ever lickable newspaper is printed, though you ought to beware of the nuts contained therein:

I think my favourite though, is Google's new Google Translate for Animals software:

Check out the demo =)

If only every day was as productive, the world would be a magical place!
