Eurotrip 2010: Hardangerjøkulen glacier, Norway

On our drive down from Flåm to Kristiansand in Norway, we took a slight detour to avoid the tonnes of ferries our SatNav was telling us to take, and also to see a glacier! That's the thing about Norway, zoom in on a map, and you will soon see why the Vikings ended up so good at rowing! There are so many lakes and fjords, it totally makes more sense by boat.

We actually struck really lucky with the Hardangerjøkulen glacier we chose to look at, it turns out to be the very glacier where Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back was filmed (the ice planet Hoth)! How exciting! (thanks for the tip off Øyvind).

I love this picture we managed to get of it. We set off really early in the morning, around 5am, so we arrived on the top of this mountain in the early morning light.

Here's a close-up:

And here's Leia sleeping on it! (from starwars.com)
